Best thought of as the Airbnb of farmland. Our goal is to alleviate the problem of land access for farmers, while simultaneously digitizing the huge and still analog farm rental market. FLP was started as a side hustle and it grew much faster than ever anticipated. We spent virtually no money on marketing and still saw massive and rapid growth. We are now at a point where we are looking for the right partner to help scale the firm and take it where it deserves to be. Farm rentals is a massive market (~ 40% of farmland is rented each year) and it is one of the only large industries that has yet to move from analog to digital. Most deals are still done by handshake and cash. This results in lost productivity (instead of hiring the best farmer, the landowner just rents to the same neighbor each year), lower income (same reasoning), less liability coverage (handshake deals leave a ton of liability out there), and just a poor overall experience. Our service is digitizing the entire lifecycle of the farm rental industry and is actually pretty revolutionary. It solves each of the above problems. We allow farmers and landowners to match, for free. We facilitate the listing of the land, and the messaging back and forth. We then provide free document storage for things like the lease, soil samples, etc... As part of that, we incorporated docusign to be able to do a "create your own lease." We also facilitate the payment of the lease and allow for secure payment/receipt through our utilization of stripe/plaid software. With regards to competition, it is 2 fold. Tillable is doing well and growing rapidly, however, they are targeting the large industrial scale farms in the Midwest as opposed to the smaller farms that we are. Our market is actually much larger than theirs. On the other side, it is state run “Farmlinks” like this. That is it. The rest of the market is purely analog – all handshake deals. We have done virtually no marketing, but did a trial on Google adwords with about $3000. It was highly successful and we found not just farmers, but landowners as well. We were getting about 15 people a day signing up (farmer and landowner combined, but farmers are much easier to find), when spending $20/day. We’ve had wonderful reviews and great testimonials from customers, both farmers and landowners, and I would be happy to share them with you if you;;d like to see them.
